Ellie is a multifaceted choreographer whose work stretches across the techniques of jazz, modern, contemporary, ballet and tap and has graced the stage in musical theater productions, operas, plays, concert dance and special events. Her works have been adjudicated by the Kennedy Center and selected for several festivals including the Richmond Dance Festival, Emotions Theatre Emerging Choreographers Showcase and KCACTF Region 2. Her musical theater credits include "Mary Poppins", "The Lightning Thief", "The Little Mermaid", "42nd Street", "Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812",  "Addams Family", "Mamma Mia!", "Shrek! The Musical", "Beauty and the Beast",  and "Savage Force" (off-broadway). Her skill set as a choreographer has been sought out by universities for both concert dance and musical productions. She's choreographed several operas including "Noye's Fludde", a nominee for KCACTF Region 2, and “Still More/More Still”, a song cycle in collaboration with composer Anna Heflin and coloratura soprano Melissa McCann. She was a choreographer in concorDance Contemporary and presented choreography for eight seasons with the Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative, a 501(c)3 non-profit she co-founded in 2014. Ellie choreographed and performed in her dance film "Embodying Emily", a creative imagining of a moment of self-reflection and illumination by Emily Dickinson. She started her own company, Ellie de Waal and Dancers, in 2022 that has showcased works in full-length performances and festivals in Virginia, Chicago, and New York City. ​​
