Ellie is a multifaceted choreographer whose work stretches across the techniques of jazz, modern, contemporary and ballet and has graced the stage in musical theater productions, operas, plays and special events. Her works have been adjudicated by the Kennedy Center and selected for several festivals including the Richmond Dance Festival, Emotions Theatre Emerging Choreographers Showcase and KCACTF Region 2. Her musical theater credits include "Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812", "Mamma Mia!", "Shrek! The Musical", "Beauty and the Beast", "Savage Force" (off-broadway), and "The Addams Family". Her skill set as a choreographer has been sought out by universities for both concert dance and musical productions. She's choreographed several operas including "Noye's Fludde", a nominee for KCACTF Region 2, and “Still More/More Still”, a song cycle in collaboration with composer Anna Heflin and coloratura soprano Melissa McCann. She was a primary choreographer in concorDance Contemporary for two major projects and has presented choreography for eight seasons with the Harrisonburg Dance Cooperative, a 501(c)3 non-profit she co-founded in 2014. Ellie choreographed and performed in her dance film "Embodying Emily", a creative imagining of a moment of self-reflection and illumination by Emily Dickinson. She started her own company, Ellie de Waal and Dancers, in 2022 with whom she recently performed in a collaborative showcase "Re/turn" in Virginia. EdW and Dancers will be performing in Park Slope, Brooklyn in January 2024 and in Chicago, Illinois in April 2024.
